BCRC was formed in April 2011 by a small group of enthusiasts and has grown to approximately 50 members; the Club is open to anyone interested in getting afloat and enjoying some exercise in beautiful surroundings with like-minded people. Whether you’re competitive, or just want to get out in a boat and socialise, the Club will have a warm welcome for you.

We have a full calendar of events ranging from regular sessions in Brightlingsea to exploring the many creeks on the River Colne, and even trips further afield (look under Events for the current list). Racing is encouraged and the Club participated in many events this year ranging from local town regattas to the 21 mile Great River Race in London, and the Harker’s Yard Gigs’ Winter Series is proving very popular.

This member has summed it all up in a nutshell (and we didn’t bully him into it either!):-

‘I have never been one for exercise as I find most forms quite boring.
Rowing has a different appeal for me as it mixes exercise with nature and excitement.
Since starting in April I have seen a seal dining on a bass in the harbour, a curlew wading for food, several egrets preening, baby oyster catchers learning to fly and my first ever sky sun dog!
I have been up to my waist in mud pushing the boat off when it run aground and been sprayed with sea water as a racing yacht sped within inches of our boat.
I have thoroughly enjoyed myself and even find myself reliving the events with other members, recreating some of the more humorous events.
The club has developed through the summer with many people’s ‘real’ characters showing through. We have some very funny members!
Thank you for giving me the opportunity to row in the Great River Race last weekend, it was a fantastic experience and one I will never forget.
The whole thing is not just exercise but an experience……. and very addictive.

We welcome new members- please look in ‘Need To Know’ for more information, or come along to any of the Club sessions listed on the calendar under ‘Events’. To get in touch with the Club, or inquire about membership, please use the ‘Contact us’ form; we try to update this website regularly so please visit again soon. We look forward to seeing you!
